September 1, 1979 Nichols Photo Lab was founded by Spiro and Maria Nichols. The lab was located in Downtown Salt Lake City and consisted of 2,500 square feet and 8 employees. In 1982, the business had already outgrown its lab space. Consequently, Spiro and Maria purchased a 5,000 square foot building on Stratford Avenue in the City of South Salt Lake.
The building was large enough to accommodate the expanding business and a workforce of 15 people. Through many years of hard work and dedication, the business continued to grow at a steady pace. In 1988, Spiro and Maria purchased the property and building next door to the Stratford Avenue location. This expansion doubled the size of the lab. Four years after the Stratford Avenue expansion, the City of South Salt Lake forced Spiro to move his lab due to Eminent Domain. It was September 1, 1992, that Spiro, Maria and their 32 employees moved to Nichols Photo Lab's current 20,000 square foot location. The move turned out to be a great one. On January 1, 2007 Spiro sold the lab to his nephew, Paul Karahalios. Paul has worked at the lab since the beginning and has a wealth of knowledge in the photographic industry. Nichols Photo Lab, Inc. has been providing professional photographers with premium photo finishing services since 1979. It is our pleasure to help satisfy the needs of our customers. |
